The Lodge
In the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners, a lodge is far more than just walls and a roof—it is a living, breathing community of brothers bound by shared values, traditions, and purpose. While the physical structure provides a space for gathering, it is the members within who truly define its essence, cultivating an environment of camaraderie, wisdom, and mutual support.
Within our Order, we often refer to the lodge as a garden, symbolizing growth, nourishment, and the continuous cultivation of knowledge and brotherhood. Just as a garden thrives through careful tending, so too does a lodge flourish through the dedication and fellowship of its members.

This sacred bond cultivates trust, support, and shared wisdom, strengthening both individuals and the collective whole. Who We Are
Symbolism
The symbols of Free Gardening are deeply rooted in the lessons of our degree ceremonies and the time-honored tools of operative gardeners. Each emblem and implement carries profound meaning, serving as a guide to the virtues we uphold within the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners. The use of the square and compass did not appear in our records until the 19th century, nearly 200 years after the Free Gardeners began. This was likely due to Masonic influence brought into the order by members who joined or had previously been a part of Freemasonry.
Just as an operative gardener shapes the earth to bring forth life, we, as Free Gardeners, apply these principles to cultivate love, wisdom, harmony and truth within our lives and our lodge. Through these symbols, we honor tradition while carrying forth the noble work of both practical and metaphorical gardening.

What is Free Gardenery?
The Ancient Order of Free Gardeners is a space for continuous learning and personal development. Members engage in enlightening ceremonies, lectures, and events designed to enhance their knowledge of self and the world around them. Free Gardeners promote the mastery of self, environmental stewardship, and interconnectedness of nature (oness). Free Gardening , like actual gardening is a craft which takes commitment and patience.
Through the daily practice of its virtues we believe the individual blossoms and grows into the best version of themselves. Simply put, Free Gardenery is more than a fraternity; Free Gardenery is a lifestyle.
